Cut flowers

care tips

  1. It is very important to bring your flowers indoor as soon as they are delivered.
  2. There are some things to consider when it comes to placing your flowers in the home. Indirect sunlight is fine, but direct sunlight for just a couple of hours a day can actually do damage to the flowers. So, when you’re looking for a place to set your flowers, be sure to choose a spot that spells to you “moderate environment with plenty of visibility” to enjoy their beauty. Be sure to avoid spots that see frequent heat from things like an oven, heating vent, or even under-cabinet lighting if left on frequently. Heat, far more than light, will have a negative effect on your cut flowers within a short amount of time.
  3.  Pour in and mix the enclosed floral food packets provided with each flower order. The floral food has been shown to increase the life of fresh flowers by several days.
  4. Be sure to remove any leaves that may fall below the water line to prevent bacteria from forming. Floral food will also help to limit bacteria growth. Rinse the bottom part of the stems before placing them in water.
  5. Flowers last longer if they are kept away from drafts and ripening fruits, which emit ethylene gas.
  6. Check the water level in the vase and replenish it frequently.
  7. Flowers that go limp are not drinking well and need to be recut. Cutting at an angle provides a larger exposed area for the uptake of water. It also enables the stem to stand on a point, allowing water to be in contact with the cut surface. Remove all the lower foliage that would be submerged in water.
